2008 AACD Youth Conservation WorkshopWe invite you to nominate participants to the 2008 Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts (AACD) – Youth Conservation Workshop. The camp will be held at Camp Clearfork Campgrounds near Mt. Ida June 8-13. The workshop is an educational partnership, hosted by AACD with partnering agencies including Arkansas Forestry Commission, Arkansas Natural Resources Commission, Cooperative Extension Service, Arkansas Game and Fish, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Students must have completed the 10th, 11th and/or 12th. Applications must be received by May 15, 2008. Registration will begin at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Camp Clearfork Campgrounds near Mt. Ida, Arkansas and wrap up by 10:00 am on Friday, June 13, 2008. Our week will be an incredibly full one and we will have something planned for almost every minute of the day. Because the primary purpose of the workshop is educational in nature, we will make the most of the time available to us by working hard all week. We will wrap up with an exam. The results of which will determine who receives the three (3) $500 scholarships sponsored by AACD (2) and the Razorback Chapter of Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation Society (1). One of the AACD scholarships is named in honor of Shane Stauffer, a past youth counselor. We have planned the entire event with the participant’s success in mind. We want them to learn and see new things and have fun doing it. We plan for them to be successful in every aspect of the workshop, especially the exam, so do not be overly concerned about passing the exam. Their learning from the presentations is always a direct reflection of how well we have taught the subjects and we want to be successful in this just as much as they do. We want each one who participates to leave with fond memories and a wealth of new knowledge to share with others. We hope that we have built in enough recreational opportunities and fun to insure that they will encourage others to attend in the future. Very few students have the chance to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the workshop, and we are proud of our heritage of success. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask them, you may contact: Alice Weeks, Education Coordinator at 479-209-3514.
