Dave Ferguson Scholarship
Once again, it is time to get out there and promote the annual AACD Dave
Ferguson Scholarship Contest! The topic this year is “Healthy Watersheds: Who
is Responsible?”. In addition to the 1st Place $1,000 scholarship offered by
AACD, the Executive Board has decided to award two additional scholarships.
They are $750 scholarship for 2nd Place and $500 for 3rd Place Winners at the
state level. Last year we were disappointed when several Areas did not
participate in the contest. Hopefully we will have full participation this
year.
Below will find important information regarding the 2007-2008 scholarship
contest. Each document is designed to be copied and adapted for your own use.

to inform your community of the availability of the scholarship. Just fill
in the name of your district and phone number, and send entry forms to High
School Counselors, 4-H Leaders, FBLA Sponsors, FFA Sponsors, Scout Leaders,
and your County Extension Agents. Try to get these to the schools at the
very beginning of the year for the best results.
. Be sure to fill in the blanks and
add a contact person’s name, phone number, and the district name at the
top. Local radio stations are always looking for this type of information.
Go ahead and take a copy by the station. You might be surprised at the
results.

The rules of the contest are included in the information the student
certifies by signing the entry form. The scholarship applicants must live in
the district, have a GPA of at least 2.0, and intend to follow a
conservation related major at an Arkansas college or university. With the
entry they are required to include three letters of recommendation and a
minimum 500-word essay. Contestants in the state contest should be prepared
to give a 3-5 minute presentation on the same subject, and be interviewed by
the judges.

Important Dates to Remember
January 15, 2008 – Deadline for applications to be received in
District Offices
March 3, 2008 – Deadline for applications to be received by the
Area Presidents
April 15, 2008 – Deadline for Area Winners to be received in the
AACD State Office
June 2008 – Oral Presentations by the top three entries at the
AACD Executive Board June Meeting. Winners will be announced immediately
after a luncheon in their honor.
Three scholarships will be awarded at the state level.
